The Welsh Government must make a priority of integrating support for a dynamic rural economic strategy within its Economic Development policy,” Rebecca Williams, Director of CLA Cymru said in response to the Rural Wales – Time to Meet the Challenge 2025 Report, by Eluned Morgan AM, published yesterday (3rd July 2017). Ms Morgan is here pictured with Rebecca Williams at CLA Cymru’s event in the Senedd in December 2016.
“We welcome the creative thinking and willingness to innovate in the Rural Wales report,” Ms Williams added. “That the report highlights the distinctive challenges that the rural economy faces in the light of Brexit and also the developing City Deals concept.”
“Our CLA research has shown that with the right conditions, businesses in rural Wales will invest for growth. But we must see a stronger political-will and greater cooperation to ensure that this can happen.”
Rebecca Williams said, “The Rural Wales report rightly demonstrates the complexity of the rural economy and the critical role it plays for the welfare of the wider rural community in Wales. A cross-government approach to looking at economic development, housing, infrastructure and connectivity in rural Wales is essential.”
